Computer Science and Applied Math will continue to be the tools of innovation and value creation. Let’s point some of our education budget to creating more scholarships in this area and insure New York and the United States remain strong in the 21st Century.

I think this is a great idea. Perhaps we could also direct these scholarships especially towards women and underrepresented minorities who choose these fields. A huge amount of potential talent in these fields lies fallow because many women and minorities do not find the fields attractive-not to mention the loss to the fields created by a lack of diversity per se.
Can anyone think of more ways to interest more people in these fields (as well as engineering, the pure sciences, and mathematics)?
