Revitalize our economy

Today, with so many people in the 14th District out of a job, it’s clear that Washington bailouts and Wall Street profits simply aren’t enough to put people back to work. In Congress, my top priority will be to rebalance New York City's economy as an innovation capital and diversified hub of next generation industries that create thousands of new jobs for our communities, and set us on a course of sustainable economic growth. Regulate and reform the financial industry

Banks and businesses need the freedom to generate growth and jobs – but not to bend the rules in order to profit at the expense of consumers or the health of our nation’s economy. Drawing on my experience in the financial sector, I will fight for smart regulatory policies that restrain financial industry recklessness, and insist that the goals of Wall Street are aligned with the goals of all New Yorkers. Reinvest in schools and kids

A strong economy in the 21st century starts with strong schools. Period. And no investment offers a bigger return than ensuring our children have the education they need to succeed. I believe that education reform is the key to long-term economic success for New York City and for America. In Congress, I will push for smart, effective school reform that prepares students to succeed in the new economy. Read more

Reform immigration in America

Our current immigration system is broken and compromises our economic vitality and our country’s safety. Reforming our immigration policies and procedures is essential for America’s national security – and critical to our economic recovery. Read more

Rally for LGBT Equality

The fight for LGBT rights is one of the defining civil rights efforts of our generation. Year after year, progressive politicians have pledged support for LGBT issues but many proposals have yet to translate into action. It is important to recognize that securing LGBT rights is essential to guaranteeing equality for all Americans. Read more

Reinvent Our Government with Constituency 2.0

One of the primary functions of a Congressional representative is to listen and advocate for their constituents’ interests in Washington. Members of Congress also assist constituents with their interactions with federal agencies and provide important services such as nominating constituents for admission to the nation’s service academies, coordinating immigration requests with various agencies, and assisting constituents with identifying and applying for federal grants. While most Congressional representatives simply manage one-way contract and request services online, I plan to have fully interactive conversations. Read more

Re-envision national security

I believe we can and will secure America’s future through strategic and innovative policies, initiatives, and reforms at home and abroad. And that means re-envisioning our national security efforts. Read more

Reaffirm Our Commitment to Israel

The partnership between the United States and Israel, one of our closest allies and the only democracy in the Middle East, is critical to America’s security and essential to advance peace and prosperity in the region. Economic cooperation between the United States and Israel has resulted in unprecedented technological achievements across industries, from faster microchips to medical equipment that saves lives around the world. Recognize Women's Rights

As I’ve experienced first hand, women disproportionately enroll in health care in the more expensive individual market and traditionally have faced higher premiums. In fact, women are 13 percent more likely than men to defer care due to costs. While the recent health care reform ended gender-based discrimination, I believe we need to immediately provide support and subsidies for single mothers who are struggling with health care costs incurred prior to the establishment of exchange plans. I also fully and unequivocally support a woman's right to choose and understand the vigilance and action needed to protect and defend that right. Read more

Rebuild New York City’s infrastructure

By 2030, there will likely be more than 9 million people living in New York City. In that time, if we do nothing, our infrastructure that supports vibrant city life will get older, our air and water will become dirtier, and our environment will become increasingly unsustainable. That’s why we need smart, long-term investments in our infrastructure, including more affordable housing and projects to green our City. Read more
